Io e il mio fidanzato abbiamo trascorso una vacanza indimenticabile a Minorca. L’isola tranquilla delle Baleari. Quella dai ritmi lenti e rilassanti. Un’oasi verde fatta di acqua cristallina, calette e spiagge mozzafiato. E, credetemi, ci ho lasciato il cuore. L’isola offre un meraviglioso sentiero, il Camí de Cavalls, che si snoda per 185 km lungo il suo perimetro, “diviso” in venti tappe (Maó, Es Grau, Favàritx, Arenal d’en Castell, Cala Tirant, Binimel·là, Els Alocs, Algaiarens, Cala Morell, Punta Nati, Cittadella, Punta d’Artrutx, Cala en Turqueta, Cala Galdana, Sant Tomàs, Son Bou, Cala en Porter, Binisafúller, Punta Prima e Cala de Sant Esteve). Il nostro tour dell’isola di Minorca è iniziato da Maó, o Mahon, la capitale. Meritevole anche solo per concedersi delle piacevoli passeggiate la sera lungo il suo porto.

My fiancé and I spent an unforgettable vacation in Menorca. The quiet island of the Balearic Islands. The one with slow and relaxing rhythms. A green oasis made of crystal clear water, coves and breathtaking beaches. And, believe me, I left my heart there. The island offers a wonderful trail, the Camí de Cavalls, which runs 185 km along its perimeter, “divided” into twenty stages. Our tour of the island of Menorca began in Maó, or Mahon, the capital. Definitely worth a stop to enjoy a nice walk in the evening along its harbor.

Da lì ci siamo dedicati all’esplorazione del Parco Naturale S’Albufera des Grau. Si tratta di un’area molto vasta nella parte nord-orientale di Minorca, che costituisce un esempio straordinario di biodiversità. Un luogo unico di cui ci siamo letteralmente innamorati. Qui si trovano le splendide spiagge, partendo da nord, di Cala Presili e Platja d’en Tortuga. Mentre nella parte sud si trova la famosa Platja Es Grau. Infine, ci siamo goduti anche una graziosa spiaggetta da soli, complice la difficoltà nel raggiungerla a piedi: Cala En Vidrier. Sempre all’interno del Parco Naturale S’Albufera des Grau, tornando nella zona nord, si trova il suggestivo Faro di Favàritx. È senza dubbio uno dei fari più affascinanti che abbia mai visto, il paesaggio intorno ci ha lasciati senza fiato. L’ideale per gli appassionati di fotografia.

From there we went on to explore the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park. This is a very large area in the northeastern part of Menorca that is an extraordinary example of biodiversity. A unique place that we literally fell in love with. Here are the beautiful beaches, starting from the north, of Cala Presili and Platja d’en Tortuga. While in the southern part is the famous Platja Es Grau. Lastly, we also enjoyed a pretty little beach on our own, complicit with the difficulty in reaching it on foot: Cala En Vidrier. Also within the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park, returning to the northern area, is the striking Favàritx Lighthouse. It is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating lighthouses I have ever seen; the landscape around it left us breathless. Ideal for photography enthusiasts.

Tornando alle spiagge, proseguendo lungo la zona nord di Minorca, c’è l’imbarazzo della scelta: da Arenal Son Saura a Cala Pudent, da Cala Tirant a Cala Viola de Ponent fino a Platja de Cavalleria. Si arriva poi in una delle più belle dell’isola: Cala Pregonda, con i suoi inconfondibili panorami e l’acqua cristallina. Descrivendo il nord di Minorca non posso non citare Cala Pilar, spiaggia dai tipici colori talmente caldi da arrivare a un inconfondibile rosso mattone. Indubbiamente una delle più caratteristiche dell’isola. Per concludere, troviamo Platja Des Bot e Cala Algaierens. E da quest’ultima, con solo un quarto d’ora di macchina, si raggiunge uno dei miei punti panoramici preferiti dell’isola: il Mirador Cala Morell. 

Back to the beaches, continuing along the northern part of Menorca, you are spoiled for choice: from Arenal Son Saura to Cala Pudent, from Cala Tirant to Cala Viola de Ponent to Platja de Cavalleria. Then you arrive at one of the island’s most beautiful: Cala Pregonda, with its unmistakable views and crystal clear water. Describing the north of Menorca, I cannot fail to mention Cala Pilar, a beach with typical colors so warm as to reach an unmistakable brick red. Definitely one of the most characteristic on the island. To conclude, we find Platja Des Bot and Cala Algaierens. And from the latter, with only a quarter of an hour’s drive, we reach one of my favorite viewpoints on the island: the Mirador Cala Morell. 

Per le zone del nord-ovest dell’isola abbiamo soggiornato a Ciutadella. È stato anche un modo per coniugare al meglio il binomio che preferisco: cultura e natura . Perché questa città storica, con i suoi edifici e le sue viuzze, merita indubbiamente una visita. Qui è possibile ammirare la Cattedrale di Minorca, straordinario esempio di stile gotico catalano. Abbiamo non a caso optato per l’Hotel Artemisia, che si trova a due passi dalla Catedral de Santa María de Ciudadela.

For the northwest areas of the island, we stayed in Ciutadella. It was also a way to best combine my favorite combination: culture and nature. Because this historic town, with its buildings and narrow streets, is undoubtedly worth a visit. Here you can admire the Cathedral of Menorca, an extraordinary example of Catalan Gothic style. We not surprisingly opted for the Hotel Artemisia, which is just a stone’s throw from the Catedral de Santa María de Ciudadela. 

Ed è proprio vicino al centro della città che si trova una delle più belle calette di Minorca: Cala en Brut. L’acqua è a dir poco splendida. Ci tengo a precisare che non c’è spiaggia, ma sono presenti unicamente delle scalette per entrare in acqua. Vista la mia passione per la fotografia, mi sono recata in questo luogo all’alba per trovare la luce giusta: un vero paradiso. In ogni caso, a meno che non intendiate arrivare alle 6 di mattina, sappiate che è un luogo preso d’assalto dove concedersi giusto un tuffo.

And it is right near the center of town that you will find one of the most beautiful coves in Menorca: Cala en Brut. The water is gorgeous. I would like to point out that there is no beach; there are only ladders to enter the water. Given my passion for photography, I went to this place at dawn to find the right light: a true paradise. In any case, unless you plan to arrive at 6 a.m., know that it is a place taken by storm where you can indulge in just a dip.

Le sorprese soggiornando a Ciutadella non sono finite, perché a soli dieci minuti di auto dal centro si trova un luogo consigliassimo per i fotoamatori: Pont d’en Gil, dove immortalare l’imponente arco roccioso sul mare alle prime luci dell’alba o al tramonto. 

The surprises while staying in Ciutadella are not over, because just a ten-minute drive from the center is a highly recommended spot for amateur photographers: Pont d’en Gil, where you can capture the imposing rock arch over the sea at first light or at sunset.  

Dopo aver percorso buona parte dell’isola in lungo e in largo ci rechiamo a sud, disseminato di calette paradisiache. Cominciamo dalle splendide Cala en Turqueta e Platja des Talaier  alle quali dedichiamo un’intera giornata. Il mattino seguente, ci svegliamo presto per raggiungere Platja de Cala Galdana, famosa spiaggia della zona molto ben servita, lasciare l’auto e incamminarci lungo il sentiero  del Camí de Cavalls per raggiungere le splendide Cala Macarella e Cala Macarelleta.  Altre bellissime cale della zona sono Cala Mitjaneta, Cala Mitjana, Cala de Trebalúger e Cala Escorxada. Come avrete capito, chi come noi ama le calette e la sensazione di trovarsi immersi nella natura ha l’imbarazzo della scelta. 

After traveling most of the length and breadth of the island, we head south, dotted with paradisiacal coves. We start with the splendid Cala en Turqueta and Platja des Talaier to which we spend an entire day. The next morning, we wake up early to reach Platja de Cala Galdana, a famous beach in the area that is very well served, leave the car and walk along the Camí de Cavalls path to reach the beautiful Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta.  Other beautiful coves in the area are Cala Mitjaneta, Cala Mitjana, Cala de Trebalúger and Cala Escorxada. As you may have guessed, those who like us love coves and the feeling of being immersed in nature are spoiled for choice. 

Dedichiamo gli ultimi giorni alle spiagge del sud: da Platja Binigaus a Platja de Son Bou, passando per Platja de Sant Tomàs. Sia Platja de Sant Tomàs che Platja de Son Bou sono molto ben servite e ideali per le famiglie. E a noi non dispiace rilassarci un po’ sulla spiaggia dopo il nostro “tour de force”.

We spend the last few days on the southern beaches: from Platja Binigaus to Platja de Son Bou, via Platja de Sant Tomàs. Both Platja de Sant Tomàs and Platja de Son Bou are very well served and ideal for families. And we don’t mind relaxing a bit on the beach after our “tour de force.”

Ho un ricordo meraviglioso di questa vacanza. Minorca mi ha totalmente conquistata. Una vegetazione così rigogliosa e le sfumature del blu del mare difficili da dimenticare. A presto Minorca, credo proprio che ci rivedremo!
